The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a loving outreach of this church. Each month, the newest Prayer Shawls are blessed during the last Sunday's worship service. There are two racks in the sanctuary where the blessed prayer shawls are available to be given to anyone in need of healing and uplifting prayers to surround them. The caring hands that create the prayer shawls pray over these shawls as they are made and the entire congregation joins in those prayers on Sunday. A Prayer Shawl is given to the baby and family when a child is baptized here at Ballston Spa United Methodist Church. It is our way of surrounding each child with the love and prayers of this congregation. The Prayer Shawl program has been formally active in this church for more than 10 years with an active group of knitters and crocheters. It is a continuation of at least three decades of caring outreach. We have provided hundreds of baby blankets (locally, through Church World Service and the United Methodist Church) and now, Prayer Shawls throughout the local church and area, across the U.S. and around the world, touching the lives of countless people. There are individuals in the congregation who knit, crochet, and sew these items. Anyone wishing to join with us to create a prayer shawl or blanket may contact Ruth Persons, Pat Brewster, Ilah Sisson Walser or the church office. Donations of yarn can be made by leaving it in the baskets at the rear of the sanctuary labeled for the Prayer Shawl and Knitting Ministry. Homespun yarn, knitting 4 ply yarn are always useable. Each shawl takes about 2-3 skeins of yarn (7oz, 14 oz. or pound size). Please contact any of the people listed above if you have questions. Jesus' hands were kind hands, doing good for all. Help us be the kind hands sharing goodness now.
