Red Bird Shoebox Ministry
We have an opportunity to participate in the Red Bird Mission Christmas project. We will be filling shoeboxes (plastic with locking lids) with suggested items for adult man or woman, children girl or boy. This is a time-tested United Methodist mission in Beverly, Kentucky. We will be collecting the boxes or items until October 17th. Bring the shoeboxes to church or call Ilah Sisson Walser (518-885-1275) to drop them off to her.
Ways you can participate:
If you would like to fill a box (boxes available from Ilah), there is a list available. If you feel like donating specific item(s), contact Ilah for an available listing. Please note that the hats and mittens or gloves will be provided so you don’t have to purchase them for our boxes. Also, we already have a supply of adult toothbrushes, socks, shampoo, and bars of soap for the boxes. By working together, we can fill more boxes.
*Red Shoebox Note: All items should be FULL size and in their original containers, as purchased. To help items fit in the box, purchase flat bottles of shampoo, hand lotion, etc. & small round cans of shaving cream. Items listed below in italics have already been supplied.

UMCOR US Disaster Response and Recovery
In response to the extreme winds and flooding caused by Hurricane Ida, a Category 4 storm that made landfall on the U.S. gulf coast on August 29, UMCOR remains in prayer for the many states and communities that were in its path.
UMCOR is in coordination with conference disaster response coordinators to assess the scale of damage and has awarded grants to the Louisiana and Mississippi conferences to support initial emergency relief efforts.
As the situation evolves, early response teams will be invited to help with needs such as debris removal and the tarping of roofs.
Join the effort by writing a check to the church designated for UMCOR Domestic Giving 901670, or give securely at umcor.org. Thank you for your generous gifts.
Thrift Shop and Food Pantry
Due to the Covid upswing, the Thrift Shop is again closed. Stay tuned for the reopening date. However, the Food Pantry remains open on Wednesdays from 9:30 till noon. Thank you to the people who continue to donate their time for this worthwhile mission.
Annual Church Conference
This year's Church Conference has been scheduled for 4:30 pm on October 16th at the Round Lake UMC. The report forms for key leaders are due as soon as possible; please return them to the church office.
Native American Remembrance
September 30th was designated at National Day of Remembrance by Native American United Methodist leaders, the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, Native American Comprehensive Plan, Native American International Caucus, and numerous annual conference committees on native American Ministries. We join together in special remembrance of the victims and survivors of the residential schools across the country.
The history of the "Indian Boarding Schools" is complex and perplexing, particularly regarding the religious complicity. Current news attention has brought to light the many children who were taken from their homes and families and transported to "schools" far away to be transformed and educated. Many of those children did not return home to their families.
We ask that you remember these children and hear their silenced voices in the wind. We need to learn from the past so that we do not repeat it in the future. For the full statement, check online:

Sunday School Plans
Thank you all for the input! Kelly, Mary, and I are excited to get Sunday School going again. We are going to start Sunday 10/10! We have decided to meet approximately two Sundays a month through the end of the year. We will meet as one group upstairs after children’s time. We have some ideas for some projects and fun activities but would also like to hear from the kids to see what might make it exciting for them to come to Sunday School. We will see how this goes and decide what is working or what we might do differently for winter/spring. The dates we plan to have Sunday School are: 10/10, 10/24, 11/7, 11/21, and 12/12. See everyone soon!

The Simpson United Methodist Church on Rock City Falls Rd. will be having a Soup-To-Go & Bake Sale on October 9th from 11 am to 3 pm. The cost is $6 for a medium-size container and $10 for a family-size container.

This week's prayer concerns:
- Prayers for the family of Marion Phillips following her passing September 18th. She was the oldest member (since November 1951) of our church. She was Secretary of the Administrative Board and annual church conference, Church Secretary, member of UMW and Reapers and Susannah Wesley Circles, Membership Secretary, and most notably the greeter on the north entry door for many years. She was the Food Pantry staff, chief, and stocker for many years. During her tenure, Marian and Ilah worked together to apply for a grant through the Troy Conference Health and Welfare Committee to purchase our first Food Pantry refrigerator and freezer. She worked on luncheons (after she retired), served on finance drives, and the list goes on. She was 102. Although she wasn't able to be in worship, she is remembered fondly. We are thankful for the service of Marian Phillips.
- Melody Babcock asks for prayers for Amy who is in her last month of a high-risk pregnancy.
- Mary Drake asks for prayers for the friends and family of her neighbor, Dan, who recently passed.
- Please pray for the family and friends of Bill Doyle, who passed away September 10th. Bill is Janet Mallette’s brother.
- Pat Jones would like prayers of comfort and healing for her sister Doris Diamond who has health issues.
- Please continue prayers for Olivia. She has been missing since August 22nd.
- Pat Jones asks for prayers of comfort for Jim, a local man of ninety-three, who is in ill health.
- Carrie Adserias requests prayers for Kyle's Grandma Carleen who has been battling with spreading cancer and treatments for a while now and is currently suffering with complications. Lord, hear our prayers.
- Ilah Sisson Walser asks for prayers for a family friend who is going through another bout with cancer with specialized treatments. Please add her to your prayers. Thank you.
- Please put Bill on our prayer list. He is an Elk member who monthly delivers many bags of groceries to our Food Pantry. He has cancer and will be going to Albany Med. for advice on treating it.
- Please continue to keep Bill Haege, Marilynn Peterson, and Bob Elbertson in your prayers.
Please reach out to people who are alone during this time. A card or phone call will let them know they are not alone or forgotten.
