Personal Best for Falling Leaves 5K!

For the past nine years, the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church has organized the “Falling Leaves 5K” to promote health and wellness and raise funds for local mission projects.  2015 was a “personal best” with 170 people participating, raising $5,700! Gifts were divided between three organizations, the Shelter of Saratoga (sheltersofsaratoga.org) which provides shelter and support for the homeless in our county (including Code Blue), the Captain Youth Shelter (captaincares.org) where homeless teens find refuge and healing, and the Ballston Area Clergy Association Fund, which provides financial assistance to families in need in the Ballston Spa school district.  The fund raises and gives away $12,000-$16,000 annually, and depends on the generosity of churches, organizations and individuals.  The Methodist Church, along with First Baptist, Christ Church, and First Presbyterian, work together on this project seeking to share God’s love in a tangible way to people in times of financial crisis (individuals are always welcome to make donations to the fund by directing them to First Presbyterian Church, 22 West High St. Ballston Spa with BACA Fund in the memo).

“We are very grateful to host this event and thankful to all of our community sponsors that have helped us raise over $24,000 since the inception of the race 9 years ago. We are looking forward to another record-breaking event next Columbus Day weekend as we celebrate our 10th year.”  -Gary Wilson, current chair of the 5K and member of the Ballston Spa United Methodist Church.
